Short answer: Indian passport holders living in the UAE can travel to around 55 destinations without getting a visa in advance — but “without a visa in advance” does not always mean “visa-free”. Some countries let Indians in with no visa at all, others issue a visa on arrival, and others need a quick online ETA or eVisa before departure. On top of that, your UAE residence visa unlocks two extra destinations — Georgia and Armenia — that are not open to Indian passport holders travelling from India. This guide lists them all, separated honestly by entry type.

Visa-Free Countries for Indian Passport Holders
These destinations admit Indian passport holders with no prior visa, according to Henley Passport Index 2026 reporting (based on IATA data). Stay lengths are typical figures — always check before travel.
- Asia: Bhutan, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, the Philippines and Macao (SAR China).
- Africa: Mauritius, Senegal, Rwanda and Angola.
- Caribbean and Americas: Barbados, Jamaica, Dominica, Grenada, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Montserrat.
- Pacific: Fiji, Vanuatu, Micronesia, Kiribati, the Cook Islands and Niue.
- Other: the British Virgin Islands.
Thailand deserves a note: Thailand’s temporary 60-day visa-free arrangement is expected to end on 15 September 2026, with eligible tourists — including Indian passport holders — generally receiving 30 days visa-free instead. Treat this as expected rather than confirmed, and check Thailand’s official immigration guidance before booking.

Visa-on-Arrival and eVisa/ETA Countries for Indian Passport Holders
These destinations need no embassy visit, but they are not visa-free — you either get the visa at the airport or apply online first.
- Visa on arrival: Maldives, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Timor-Leste, Jordan (also eTA in some reports), Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Comoros, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania, Sierra Leone, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Palau, Samoa, Tuvalu and Papua New Guinea.
- eVisa or ETA before departure: Sri Lanka (ETA), Kenya (ETA), Seychelles (travel authorisation), Qatar (eTA), Oman (eTA), Singapore (eTA in some reports), South Korea (K-ETA) and Vietnam (eVisa).
The distinction matters at check-in: airlines will refuse boarding for an eVisa destination if you have not completed the online application, even though no embassy visit was involved.
The UAE-Residence Bonus: Georgia and Armenia
This is where living in the UAE genuinely changes the answer for Indian passport holders.
Georgia — visa-free for 90 days in any 180-day period
Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that individuals who hold a UAE visa or residence permit may enter and stay in Georgia without a visa for 90 calendar days in any 180-day period. Indian nationals are not on Georgia’s exception list, so no extra one-year-validity condition applies. From 1 January 2026, tourists entering Georgia must carry health and accident insurance covering at least GEL 30,000 for the whole stay — check before travel.
Armenia — temporary visa-free arrangement, currently extended to 1 July 2027
Since 1 July 2025, Armenia has run a temporary visa-free arrangement for eligible nationals holding a valid residence permit from a GCC country (including the UAE), provided the permit is valid for at least six months from entry. The arrangement has been extended to 1 July 2027, with a stay of up to 180 days in a one-year period reported for the current round. Because the arrangement is temporary and nationality-limited, verify your eligibility on Armenia’s official e-Visa portal (evisa.mfa.am) before booking.

Documents Indian Passport Holders in the UAE Need
- Passport valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates.
- Emirates ID and UAE residence proof — essential for the Georgia and Armenia routes, where your residence permit is the basis of entry.
- Return or onward ticket and hotel bookings — routinely asked for at visa-on-arrival counters.
- Proof of funds — bank statements or cards, especially for longer stays.
- Travel insurance — mandatory for Georgia from 2026 (at least GEL 30,000 cover).
- eVisa/ETA confirmation printout for Sri Lanka, Kenya, Seychelles and similar destinations.
How to Check Your Eligibility in 5 Steps
- Find your entry type first. Is the destination visa-free, visa-on-arrival or eVisa/ETA for Indian passport holders? The three are not interchangeable.
- Check the UAE-residence bonus separately. For Georgia, confirm the MFA rule; for Armenia, confirm the current temporary arrangement on evisa.mfa.am.
- Confirm passport and permit validity. Six months of passport validity is the norm; Georgia and Armenia add residence-permit validity conditions.
- Complete any online step before departure. An ETA or eVisa must be approved before you fly — an unapproved application means denied boarding.
- Ask your airline before you pay. Airlines check documents against Timatic at check-in; a quick confirmation can save a ruined trip.
