Dubai in December is the city at its absolute best: 25–27°C afternoons, cool 16°C evenings, a packed events calendar and the only month when the beach, the desert and the Christmas markets all work on the same day. It is also the most expensive month to visit — hotels, flights and dinner cruises peak around the National Day long weekend (2–6 December), Christmas and New Year’s Eve. This guide gives you the honest overview: the weather in brief, what it costs, the highlights worth your time, and where to go deeper.

Is Dubai Crowded in December?
Yes — December is peak season. European winter-escape tourists, GCC holidaymakers and New Year revellers converge, and the city feels it: hotel occupancy is highest of the year, mall parking gets painful, and popular restaurants need reservations.
The price spikes cluster around three windows:
- National Day long weekend (2–6 Dec 2026) — domestic demand surges
- Christmas week (20–26 Dec) — international peak
- New Year’s Eve (28 Dec – 1 Jan) — the year’s most expensive nights
The value window is 7–18 December: the full festive atmosphere — Christmas markets, DSF sales, decorated malls — with slightly softer hotel rates and thinner crowds on weekdays.
Dubai in December: The Highlights
Events and festivals
December 2026’s confirmed headliners: the Dubai Shopping Festival (4 Dec – 17 Jan, 32nd edition), Eid Al Etihad 55th National Day celebrations (2–3 Dec, with expected fireworks), the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix (3–6 Dec, an easy day trip), MOTN Festival at the Abu Dhabi Corniche (from 9 Dec), Christmas markets across the city, and the Burj Khalifa New Year’s Eve fireworks (expected). Winter-only attractions Global Village and Dubai Miracle Garden are both in full swing — see our Global Village Season 31 guide.
Beaches and outdoors
December is the only month when everything outdoors works: beach days at JBR and Kite Beach (sea 23–25°C), desert safaris in cool evening air, marina walks, and old-Dubai wandering in Al Fahidi without the heat. Our best public beaches guide ranks the free options.
Christmas in Dubai
Dubai celebrates Christmas enthusiastically: the new DXB Winter Festival (1 Dec – 10 Jan, Festival City), Madinat Jumeirah Festive Market (4–27 Dec, free), Winter City at Expo City (11–31 Dec, Disney+ themed), The Nutcracker at Dubai Opera (4–6 Dec) and hotel festive brunches everywhere. The complete activity list is in things to do in Dubai in December.

How Many Days Do You Need?
- 3 days: Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall + Fountain, one beach morning, Al Fahidi + souks, one evening at Global Village.
- 5 days: add a desert safari, Miracle Garden, a dhow cruise and a Christmas market.
- 7 days: add a day trip — Hatta, Abu Dhabi (Grand Mosque + F1/MOTN), or Khor Fakkan.
Practical Tips for December Visitors
- Book early: hotels 6–8 weeks ahead for Christmas/NYE; Burj Khalifa sunset slots and desert safaris for 24–31 Dec sell out.
- Pack layers: summer clothes for the day, a light jacket for evenings, a hoodie for the desert.
- Plan around sunset: it is 5:28pm on 1 December — schedule golden-hour activities for 4:30–5:30pm.
- Use the metro: December traffic around malls and event zones is the year’s worst; the metro + tram beats taxis.
- Budget option: many of the best December experiences are free — fountain shows, beaches, Al Fahidi lanes, DSF street entertainment. See 25 free things to do in Dubai.
