Eid al-Fitr 2026 in the UAE
Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan. In 2026, Ramadan runs Feb 18 – Mar 19, and the Eid holiday is announced as Thu Mar 19 – Sun Mar 22. The Eid prayer is held on the morning of the first day (Mar 19). Zakat al-Fitr must be given before the prayer. See our Ramadan 2026 Abu Dhabi timetable.
Eid al-Adha 2026 in the UAE
Eid al-Adha coincides with the Hajj pilgrimage. In 2026, Arafat Day is Tue May 26 and Eid al-Adha runs Wed May 27 – Fri May 29, with the Eid prayer on the morning of May 27. The Udhiyah (sacrifice) is performed after the prayer.
How Eid Prayer Is Performed
- 2 rakats prayed in congregation, with extra takbeerat (Allahu Akbar) — typically 7 in the first rakat and 5 in the second, in addition to the opening takbir
- No adhan or iqamah is called for Eid prayer
- Khutbah after the prayer — unlike Jummah, the sermon comes after the prayer; staying to listen is recommended

Sunnah Practices on Eid Morning
- Ghusl (full bath) before heading out
- Wear your best clothes and apply perfume
- Eid al-Fitr: eat an odd number of dates before the prayer
- Eid al-Adha: delay eating until after the prayer (then eat from the Udhiyah)
- Recite the takbeer on your way to the prayer ground
- Take one route there and a different route back, and greet fellow worshippers
- Arrive early — Eid congregations are the largest of the year

Eid al-Fitr vs Eid al-Adha: What’s Different
The two Eids share the same prayer format, but the days around them differ in meaningful ways:
| Eid al-Fitr | Eid al-Adha | |
|---|---|---|
| Occasion | End of Ramadan (1 Shawwal) | Hajj season (10 Dhul-Hijjah) |
| Before the prayer | Eat an odd number of dates | Delay eating until after the prayer |
| Charity / sacrifice | Zakat al-Fitr paid before the prayer | Udhiyah sacrificed after the prayer |
| Takbeer | From the night before Eid until the prayer begins | From the first of Dhul-Hijjah through the days of Tashriq |
| Holiday length (UAE 2026) | Mar 19–22 | May 27–29 |
Both Eids: 2 rakats, 7 + 5 extra takbirs, and a khutbah after the prayer.
The Eid Takbeer: Wording and Timing
The Eid takbeer — magnifying Allah on the day of celebration — is one of the greatest Sunnahs of Eid. Its basis is in the Quran: “(He wants that you) must complete the same number (of days), and that you must magnify Allah for having guided you, so that you may be grateful to Him” (Al-Baqarah 2:185).
The widely used wording is: “Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illa Allah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa lillahil-hamd” (Allah is Most Great — there is no god but Allah — and to Allah belongs all praise).
- Eid al-Fitr: the takbeer begins at sunset on the night before Eid (once the new month of Shawwal is confirmed) and ends when the Eid prayer begins. Men say it aloud — at home, in the street, on the way to the prayer ground — and women say it quietly.
- Eid al-Adha: the takbeer runs longer — from the first day of Dhul-Hijjah until sunset on the last of the days of Tashriq. Ibn Umar and Abu Hurairah would recite it in the markets, and the people would take it up after them.
Why There Is No Adhan for Eid
Newcomers often wait for a call to prayer that never comes. That is by design: the Prophet’s practice on Eid morning was that “the first thing he would do was offer the prayer” (Bukhari) — no adhan, no iqamah. The congregation simply gathers at the announced time.
Practically, this means you need to know the time in advance (check with your mosque the evening before) and arrive early. Eid congregations are the largest of the year, and latecomers at the Grand Mosque often end up praying in the outer courtyards.
The Days of Tashriq: Eid Continues
Eid al-Adha doesn’t end on the 10th. The three days after it — the 11th, 12th, and 13th of Dhul-Hijjah — are the days of Tashriq, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) described them as “days of eating, drinking and remembering Allah” (Muslim).
Fasting on these days is prohibited (the only exception is for Hajj pilgrims performing tamattu’ or qiran who have no sacrificial animal). In the UAE, these days fall inside the Eid al-Adha public holiday — days for family visits, the Udhiyah meat, and the takbeer continuing after each prayer.
