Yes — you can legally swim at night in Dubai. Dubai Municipality has designated official night-swimming beaches where swimming is allowed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week: Umm Suqeim 1, Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3, and the newest addition, Khor Al Mamzar (opened May 2026). These zones are floodlit all night, marked with illuminated buoys, and watched by certified lifeguards on elevated towers around the clock. Entry is free.
Swimming after sunset anywhere else in Dubai is not permitted and can draw a fine. This guide covers exactly where night swimming is legal, the rules, the facilities, and the questions visitors ask most.
The 4 Official Night-Swimming Beaches in Dubai
Only swim inside the lit, buoy-marked zones at these beaches. A beach being open or accessible after dark does not automatically mean swimming is allowed there.
1. Umm Suqeim 1 Night Beach (Umm Suqeim Night Swimming Beach Dubai)
The original and most famous: night swimming launched here in 2017, making it one of the world’s first smart beaches. Twelve-metre solar-and-wind “Smart Power” poles light roughly 125 metres of shoreline and 30 metres of sea, and dozens of extra lifeguards were posted when the scheme began. The midnight cutoff was removed in late 2024, so the lit zone is now effectively 24/7.
It’s also the most scenic night swim in the city — the Burj Al Arab glows on the skyline while you swim. Facilities include showers, changing rooms, toilets, free WiFi, a free beach library, and food trucks and cafés along the promenade. Note the official Dubai Municipality page for Umm Suqeim 1 still describes the old midnight rule; the 24/7 status reflects the current 2026 position.

2. Jumeirah 2 Night Beach
Added in May 2023 when the programme expanded. Central location, the same formula: floodlit swimming zone, electronic safety display screens, and 24-hour lifeguard coverage. Best pick if you’re staying in central Jumeirah and want the shortest trip.
3. Jumeirah 3 Night Beach
The third of the original trio, also designated in May 2023. Quieter than Umm Suqeim 1 on weeknights, with the same lighting, marked zones and round-the-clock lifeguards. Good for evening swims without the crowds.
4. Khor Al Mamzar Night Beach
The newest: a 300-metre 24/7 night beach opened on 5 May 2026 as phase one of the AED 500-million Al Mamzar redevelopment, which adds 3.6 km of swimming shoreline, a floating walkway and 12 lifeguard towers. It also hosts a dedicated women-only stretch with female lifeguards and a strict no-photography rule. Because it’s new, confirm entry conditions on the day before you go.
Can You Swim at Kite Beach at Night?
Kite Beach sits on the Umm Suqeim coastal stretch, but Kite Beach itself is not an officially designated night-swimming zone. The legal, lit, lifeguarded night zone is at nearby Umm Suqeim 1 — walk along the promenade to the marked area with the light poles and lifeguard towers, and swim only inside it.
Rules for Night Swimming in Dubai
- Swim only inside the lit, buoy-marked designated zones.
- Obey the flag system and the lifeguards — a red flag means no swimming.
- Children must be supervised at all times.
- Public decorum rules apply at night too: no pets on the sand, no littering, modest swimwear.
- The zones include access for People of Determination (ramps and floating wheelchairs).
Fines for Swimming After Sunset
Swimming after dark outside the designated zones can draw a fine of up to AED 500 (expected — reported by third-party guides; Dubai Municipality has not published an official figure). Lifeguards will first ask you to leave the water; the fine applies if you refuse or repeat the offence.
Facilities, Entry Fee and Getting There
Entry to all four night beaches is free. Expect showers, changing cabins, toilets, and free WiFi at the main beaches; Umm Suqeim 1 adds the beach library and a lively food-truck promenade. Parking near Umm Suqeim is limited and paid, and the nearest metro station is around 4 km away — plan on a taxi or Careem for the last stretch, especially late at night. Bring a towel, a change of clothes, and drinking water; you can’t rent sunbeds or umbrellas at Umm Suqeim.
Is There a Women’s-Only Night Beach in Dubai?
Yes — the new Khor Al Mamzar night beach includes a dedicated women-only stretch with female lifeguards and no photography. Separately, a world’s-first 24/7 ladies-only night beach is planned for the Al Mamzar Corniche as phase two of the redevelopment, but no opening date has been confirmed (expected).
Is Night Swimming in Dubai Safe?
Inside the designated zones, yes — that’s the entire point of the programme: bright lighting, marked perimeters, and certified lifeguards 24 hours a day. The usual sea-safety rules still apply: Dubai’s waters can have strong currents, so stay inside the buoys, don’t swim alone at 3am, and never swim at an unlit beach after dark.
The 4 Night Beaches Compared
| Beach | Since | Best for | Standout feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Umm Suqeim 1 | 2017 | First-timers, families | Burj Al Arab views, beach library, food trucks |
| Jumeirah 2 | 2023 | Central location | Quickest to reach from central Dubai |
| Jumeirah 3 | 2023 | Quieter evenings | Less crowded on weeknights |
| Khor Al Mamzar | 2026 | Families, women-only swimming | Newest facilities, floating walkway |
Best Time to Visit Dubai’s Night Beaches
The honest answer: night beaches shine from October to April, when daytime highs sit in the high 20s and the sea stays warm enough for a comfortable swim after dark. In the June–September summer, the sea is bath-warm and the air can still be above 35°C at midnight — the water cools you down, but bring drinking water and don’t overdo it. Weeknights are noticeably quieter than Thursday and Friday nights at Umm Suqeim 1. If you’re visiting during Ramadan, beach hours are unchanged, but keep noise down and dress modestly as always.
How to Get to Each Night Beach
- Umm Suqeim 1: on Jumeirah Beach Road near the Burj Al Arab. No metro within walking distance — take the metro to Mall of the Emirates (Red Line) then a 10-minute taxi, or drive and use the paid parking by the beach.
- Jumeirah 2 & 3: along Jumeirah Beach Road south of La Mer. Taxi or car is easiest; street parking fills up on weekend nights.
- Khor Al Mamzar: in Deira, near Al Mamzar Beach Park. Closest to the Green Line (Al Qusais area) — a short taxi ride from the metro.
