UAE Golden Visa Status Check (2026)

The UAE Golden Visa gives you 10 years of residency — but a decade is a long time, and you’ll want to confirm your status along the way: while your application is processing, before a renewal, or after a cancellation. A UAE Golden Visa status check works just like checking any other residence visa: on ICP Smart Services for non-Dubai applications and GDRFA for Dubai — both free.

This guide covers both checks you’ll ever need: tracking a Golden Visa application (submitted, under review, approved?) and verifying an issued Golden Visa (valid, expired, cancelled?). Plus the 180-day grace period, renewal steps, and what to do if the portal shows nothing.

Two Different Checks — Know Which One You Need

You want to… Use this You need
Track a Golden Visa application (waiting for approval) ICP Application Tracking · GDRFA Track Visa Applications Application / request number (sent by SMS or email at submission)
Verify an issued Golden Visa (validity, expiry, cancellation) ICP File Validity · GDRFA Visa Status Passport details, Emirates ID or file/UID number
Dubai vs the rest, as always: applications processed through Dubai go to gdrfad.gov.ae; everything else (Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, northern emirates) goes to smartservices.icp.gov.ae. Checking the wrong portal returns no results — it does not mean your application vanished.

Track Your Golden Visa Application via ICP

For applications processed outside Dubai:

  1. Go to smartservices.icp.gov.ae.
  2. Open Application Tracking (or “Track Application Status”) in the main menu.
  3. Enter your application number / request number plus date of birth, email or phone — exactly as submitted.
  4. Click Search / Submit to see your current stage.

The UAEICP mobile app offers the same tracking — log in with UAE Pass and enable push notifications so you’re told the moment your status changes. For the general visa-tracking steps, see our ICP Smart Services visa status guide.

Track via GDRFA (Dubai Applications)

For Golden Visas processed through Dubai:

  1. Go to gdrfad.gov.ae.
  2. Open Visa Status / Track Visa Applications under Services.
  3. Enter your application reference number (and email / Emirates ID if asked).
  4. Submit to view the live status.

Property investors in Dubai can also track through the Dubai Land Department portal or the DLD Cube centre handling their file. Our GDRFA Dubai visa status check guide covers the portal in more detail.

Verify an Issued Golden Visa (Validity Check)

Golden Visa perks at a glance — and where to verify them.

Already holding the visa? Check it like any residence visa:

  • ICP → File Validity: search by Passport Information or File Number, choose Residency, enter your details. Your Golden Visa appears as a long-term residence file with issue and expiry dates.
  • GDRFA → Visa Status: for Dubai-issued Golden Visas, search by passport, file/UID number or Emirates ID.
  • UAE Pass app: once approved, your digital visa appears in the app automatically.

What the Statuses Mean

Status Meaning
Application received / submitted Your file entered the system; initial processing has begun.
Under review / processing Document and background verification underway — typically 10–15 days, sometimes longer for complex cases.
Pre-approval Positive sign — prepare for your medical fitness test. You may first need to cancel any existing visa (see UAE visa cancellation status check).
Approved Visa granted — complete medical, Emirates ID biometrics and issuance.
Valid Your issued Golden Visa is active with its 10-year expiry date.
Expired / Cancelled Your 180-day grace period is running (see below) — renew or change status.
Rejected / more documents needed Check your email/SMS for the reason and respond promptly — ICP sends time-sensitive document requests.

The 180-Day Grace Period

UAE Golden Visa status check — 180-day grace period after expiry or cancellation explained
Golden Visa holders get a generous 180 days to renew, switch or leave.

One of the Golden Visa’s biggest advantages: after expiry or cancellation, you get a 180-day grace period — far longer than the ~60 days on standard residence visas. During it you can:

  • Renew your Golden Visa through ICP or GDRFA
  • Switch to another visa category (employment, Green Visa, family)
  • Leave the UAE in an orderly way
Don’t waste it. Overstaying beyond 180 days brings the same daily fines as any other visa category, and can complicate future applications. If you’re unsure where you stand, run a UAE visa and travel ban status check too.

Renewing Your Golden Visa in 4 Steps

UAE Golden Visa status check — 4 steps to renew your golden visa via ICP or GDRFA
Renewal follows the same channels as the original application.
  1. Check your status — confirm the expiry date on ICP File Validity or GDRFA Visa Status.
  2. Prepare documents — passport, proof you still meet your category (e.g. property title deed or employment proof), health insurance, and complete the medical fitness test.
  3. Apply — via ICP Smart Services or GDRFA (Dubai), or in person at an Amer centre / DLD Cube (property route).
  4. Receive your renewed visa — then update your Emirates ID biometrics and collect the new card (5–7 working days typically).

Family first, in the right order: renew your own visa first — your spouse’s and children’s linked visas follow once your new Emirates ID is issued. One notable perk: Golden Visa holders can sponsor sons indefinitely (no age-25 cut-off) while the visa is valid. You must generally be inside the UAE to complete the medical and biometrics steps.

“No Record Found”? Check These

  • Wrong authority: Dubai application checked on ICP (or vice versa) — the most common cause.
  • Wrong check: using File Validity for an application that hasn’t been issued yet — use Application Tracking instead.
  • Typos: application numbers must match exactly; watch O/0 and I/1.
  • Still processing: allow 24–48 hours after submission for the record to appear.
  • Renewed passport: old records may sit under your previous passport number.

Last updated: October 2026. Golden Visa categories and fees change — confirm current eligibility with ICP or GDRFA before applying or renewing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I check my UAE Golden Visa status online?

Track applications via ICP Application Tracking (non-Dubai) or GDRFA Track Visa Applications (Dubai) using your application number. For an issued visa, use ICP File Validity or GDRFA Visa Status — just like any residence visa.

How long is the Golden Visa grace period after expiry or cancellation?

180 days. You can renew, switch to another visa category, or leave the UAE within that window without fines. Overstaying beyond it triggers daily fines like any other visa.

Can I check my Golden Visa status with my Emirates ID?

Yes. GDRFA Dubai accepts the Emirates ID as a search method, and ICP File Validity accepts the 15-digit Emirates ID number. See our guide to checking UAE visa status by Emirates ID.

How do I renew my UAE Golden Visa?

Check your expiry on ICP or GDRFA, prepare your documents (including proof you still meet your category) and health insurance, complete the medical fitness test, then apply via ICP Smart Services or GDRFA. Renew your own visa before your family’s linked visas.

What does “pre-approval” mean on my Golden Visa application?

It means ICP or GDRFA has reviewed your file favourably and you should prepare for your medical test. If you hold an existing visa, you may need to cancel it before the Golden Visa can be issued.

Can I renew my Golden Visa from outside the UAE?

You can start the application online, but you must be physically in the UAE to complete the medical fitness test and Emirates ID biometrics, so the renewal can’t be fully finished from abroad.

Do I lose my Golden Visa if I sell my property?

Usually yes, if the property was the basis of your nomination — the visa becomes subject to cancellation. But you get the 180-day grace period to move your investment to a new qualifying property or switch visa categories.

Is the Golden Visa status check free?

Yes — checking application status or visa validity on the official ICP and GDRFA portals costs nothing. Never pay a third-party site for a “golden visa verification”.
